We earn a commission when you book through links on this page. It never changes your price, and it never decides which crossing we recommend, including when we tell you a route is not worth booking online.

What that means in practice

Booking links and the search forms on this site point to 12Go, a Southeast Asian ticketing platform. If you book through them we receive a commission from 12Go, not from you. The fare you pay is the same as it would be if you went to 12Go directly.

Outbound affiliate links carry rel="sponsored", the attribute search engines expect on a paid or commissioned link. Some run through short internal URLs such as /vientiane-luangprabang that redirect straight to the booking page.

What commission does not decide

It does not decide which border crossing we recommend, which operator we describe as reliable, or which route we call a bad idea. Five of the routes listed on this site cannot be booked online at all, and we say so plainly on the page instead of sending you to a search box that will return nothing. Those pages earn us nothing and they stay because they are useful.

We also tell people to fly rather than travel overland where flying is genuinely the better choice, and to buy at the station rather than online where that is cheaper. Neither of those earns us anything either.

Independence

This site is not owned by, funded by, or operated on behalf of any bus company, tour operator or booking platform. No operator pays for placement, coverage or a favourable description.
