Who writes this
Laos Bus Tickets is written and maintained from Vientiane. The people behind it have lived in Laos for two decades and cross these borders themselves. It is not a content agency working from other people's blog posts, and it is deliberately independent of any tour company.
How we check things
Border facts come from the Lao Department of Immigration checkpoint register first, then cross-checked against national immigration portals, national news agencies and recent traveller reports. Where those disagree, we say so on the page rather than picking one quietly.
We check every route against what is on sale online, on several dates weeks apart. When a route has no bookable service, we mark it as such instead of pointing you at a search box that will return nothing. Both the checkpoint register and the route list are published as open data; see Sources.
What we do when sources conflict
This comes up more than you would think. For most of 2026 the official Lao register said the Lao eVisa was valid at the Cambodian border, while experienced travellers said it was refused there. Rather than pick the answer that reads better, we published both and told you the safe default: carry cash for visa on arrival. Checked again on 9 September 2026, the register itself caught up with what travellers had been reporting all along and now shows the eVisa as not available there too. We updated the page rather than quietly deleting the old dispute, because the record of what changed, when, is itself useful, not just the current answer.
We also keep a list of things we simply do not know, such as the current state of Route 13 North to Boten after the August 2026 flooding. Border information ages badly, and a confident wrong answer is worse than an honest gap.

We earn a commission when you book through links on this page. It never changes your price, and it never decides which crossing we recommend, including when we tell you a route is not worth booking online.
